Training Scheme
The Plymouth and District Organists' Association has developed a scheme to help train organists.

The scheme aims to encourage pianists to take up the organ and to provide them with tuition of guaranteed quality. It is open to anyone of any age who has already reached Associated Board grade three standard or its equivalent.

For students over the age of 18 the Association will recommend a suitable tutor and, if the student does not have access to a pipe organ, will suggest a suitable church where the lessons can take place. The course will begin with an exploratory lesson for which no charge will be made.

Students under the age of 18 will be taught in small groups for the first year. As with older students, the first session will be free of charge. The group structure will enable the cost for each individual to be kept substantially below the level for individual lessons. In cases of financial hardship it is hoped that the student’s own church will be prepared to assist, but where that is not possible, the PDOA may be able to offer some help from its own funds.

Full details of the scheme and the charges may be obtained from Philip Liddicoat, 19 Woodford Road, Glenholt, Plymouth, PL6 7HX (tel.: 01752 776731).
The training scheme is supported by the Brereton Memorial Fund.
